St Peter’s

Home for a

congregation

Quietly nestled in its courtyard, St. Peter’s Church is the first permanent Catholic Church to be established after the reformation within Aberdeen.

Built in 1803, the simple Gothic architectural complex incorporates traditional early nineteenth-century buildings. The current building replaced an earlier chapel built in 1774, and was extended in 1815 to accommodate a growing congregation.

The building has served many purposes for the church over its lifetime, including a spell as a boys’ school and as a home for Nuns from Nazareth House to care for the elderly and infirm.

Today the congregation is again a healthy one, with an increasingly international make-up, and is under the care of Father Gabor Czako.
